Candidasa (pronounced Chandidasa) is a small town on the east coast of Bali famous for the excellent snorkeling and scuba diving off the coast. It will take around 2.5 hours to drive from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. The taxi fares from the airport have a fixed price of 335,000Rp.

Candidasa is a quiet little town which reflects the true Bali lifestyle. Candidasa is surrounded by rice paddies and terraces and just behind these the many hills that lead up to Gunung Agung, the most revered volcano in Bali.

The coast line of Candidasa is quite rugged with no real beaches. Just a few kilometers north of Candidasa, around 20 minutes by car is one of the nicest beaches in all of Bali - The White Sandy Beach. Well worth the trip with the beautiful white sand, the turquoise water and a few relaxed cafes to get some food and drink.

The drive to White Sandy Beach takes you through some hills. At the top of the hills are a few places to stop to see some long talled macque monkies. It takes around 15 minutes to drive to the turn off to White Sandy Beach which is only marked with a small sign located within a small village. It is then a very bumpy 5 minute drive down to the beach.

Gunung Agung volcano is around 1 hour by car from Candidasa. At the base of Gunung Agung is Bali's most important Hindu temple called Basakih the 'Mother Temple'. A trek to the top of Gunung Agung takes around 6 - 7 hours. The best trek to do leaves around 10pm and treks during the night for arrival at the summit in time to watch the sunrise.

Water Temple - around 20 minutes drive north of Candidasa is The Water Temple of Tirta Gangga which was built in the 1948 by the Raja Anak Agung Angluran Ketut Karangasem. The beautiful water gardens were built around natural springs. The name Tirtaganngga was derived from the name Tirta meaning blessed waters and Gangga from the Ganges the holy river in India. Getting to Candidasa

It takes around 2.5 hours to drive to Candidasa from Kuta. From the airport the taxis have fixed prices of 335,000Rp to get to Candidasa. Just line up at the taxi office and pay at the airport then a taxi driver will be allocated to take you to Candidasa.

Candidasa Bali

Most people visit Candidasa to go snorkeling or scuba diving. If you do not dive than Candidasa is a perfect place to just sit back and relax. Many of the hotels have swimming pools overlooking the ocean.

Cooking Classes in Candidasa

There are a number of restaurants and hotels that arrange Indonesian cooking classes. These include a trip to the local markets to select all the ingredients, then back to the kitchen for some cooking instructions and then sit down to eat the food you creating.

Cooking classes are available at Alam Asara Dive Resort which charge US$50 per person with a minimum of 2 people for lunch or dinner cooking.
